Unit 6.2A Assignment

On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.

Description of Site:

MyStickies is a free site for anyone to use; especially teachers and students! This site allows you to take notes of important details from websites and it will keep the notes posted on the sticky for when you later return to that website. The website does not have ads. Currently the site is in the process of creating a way for notes to be shared amongst others, but as of now there is not a way to collaborate with MyStickies. I would highly suggest schools, specifically students in grades 4-12 to use this great Web 2.0 tool. I think beginning in 4th grade is when students will learn how to properly research information on the web and so I think utilizing this tool would not only benefit them during the research process, but also motivate them to want to actually do the work.

Educational Uses of Site

This site is a great tool to use by both teachers and students because it allows you to place a "sticky note" on a website where you can take notes and list any important information to save for later use. MyStickies will save your stick notes so that the next time you open the same website, the notes and information you had typed on the note will still be there. This will enable both teachers and students to not have to rely on bookmarking websites which can be time consuming to try and find a particular website when your bookmark list is large.

Review of Site

MyStickies is a great way to engage and motivate students to take notes and organize important information about a topic. This tool will "remember" the important details for you on a webpage so that the next time you visit that site, the notes on the sticky will still be there. I think this would be a perfect way for students to conduct research. Instead of using notecards to list pertinent information pertaining to their topic, they can use this tool and return to it at a later time. As a teacher, I would use this tool when searching for websites and various instructional tools relating to topics I teach in class. I could return to these websites year after year and the information that I found helpful will still be there for me on my sticky note. Not only is this a free site for everyone, but it's also user friendly.
